Who are we?
LAA Bristol Strut is a ‘club’ of the Light Aircraft Association. We have about 30 members including pilots and aviation enthusiasts from all over the region (some out of the region) but we would welcome more! We have members who fly CAA Certified aircraft and some who fly LAA Permit to Fly aircraft. Some fly both types. What bonds us all is a love of aviation in its many forms.
Where do we meet?
Our meetings are held jointly with Bristol Aero Club at BAWA the old British Aerospace Welfare Association facility on Southmead Road, Filton in Bristol. We currently meet on the first Tuesday of each month (except July/August) at 19:45 in Room 4.
Address : 589 Southmead Road, Filton, Bristol, BS34 7RG
What do we do?
A Strut evening will typically consist of a talk by a guest speaker followed by general discussion. BAWA has a well stocked bar.
Examples of previous speakers can be found in our newsletter archive
In between these talks, we hold ‘members evenings’ where discussions take place about all things aeronautical, with the occasional slide show.
Outside events have included trips to Nympsfield, where the Gliding Club gave us rides in their gliders, and visits to places like the Weston Helicopter museum and Kemble, Cameron Balloons and more recently, Brize ATC.
Meeting content is announced and reported in our ‘Brissle Strutter’ Newsletters.
Back issues of our newsletters are available.
Note! You do not need to be a LAA member to become a Strut member so we are an inexpensive way to both enjoy talks on aviation and meet fellow enthusiasts.
Our membership application form is here if you come along and like what you see.
