This is the compound in which we stayed. It is a 5 bedroom house with a small kitchen area bathroom and living area which included a bar. Within the walls there were fruit trees and a generator, as the power supply in The Gambia is very unreliable. There were also 2 maids and a nightwatchman. |

Gambian homes start off as walled compounds and gradually get built as and when the builders can afford new materials… |

Compounds then develop into small villages... |

Over time the villages grow into small towns... |

Until they become conurbations like Serrakunda where the national Stadium is situated. |
