Homes

This is the compound in which we stayed. It is a 5 bedroom house with a small kitchen area bathroom and living area which included a bar. Within the walls there were fruit trees and a generator, as the power supply in The Gambia is very       unreliable. There were also 2 maids and a nightwatchman.

Gambian homes start off as walled compounds and gradually get built as and when the builders can afford new materials…

Compounds then develop into small villages...

Over time the villages grow into small towns...

Until they become conurbations like Serrakunda where the

national Stadium is situated.
